I hadn’t seen this series for many years when the DVD from Amazon arrived a few days ago. The series was done in 1978 and stars Nicola Pagett of Upstairs Downstairs fame. Seeing it again I am amazed at the accuracy of the presentation and the acting. If you are lucky enough to have this DVD series you will be seeing the best depiction of Russia in the last years of the reign of Alexander II. The interiors, the mode of life and even the blueprint the actors negate is as terminate as anything has reach to the times. The uniforms are astounding because they had a special consultant who made certain they were right; when Vronsky appears wearing the uniform of the Preobrajensky Regiment he has the honest one – even down to one appropriate to the time of day and season. I have to say that Stuart Wilson does an fantastic job as Vronsky – no one has reach within a hundred miles of his presentation of the role. Nicola Pagett is Anna reincarnated, her suicidal descent into darkness and death is almost unbearable to search for. This is a must have DVD for anyone who loves Tolstoy’s book and Imperial Russia, win it today. This is a 100%+ review on a gargantuan series. Thank you to Time Life Video for bring it relieve. I must have watched a different mini-series from the reviewer before me, because I enjoyed this Anna Karenina immensely – so grand so that I came here to lift it after watching it via renting it. Nicola Pagett, Eric Porter, and Stuart Wilson were perfectly cast. Nicola as Anna was tremendously touching and intelligent in the role of Anna and Stuart as Vronsky was every bit the selfish playboy, caught up and surprised by a adore affair that destroys so many lives. Eric Porter as Karenin is perfect, rigid on the outside with a veritable volcano of emotions boiling within.

Yes, the production values leave a lot to be desired, but you have to steal into memoir this was a television display filmed in the 70s. The color of the characters, and the strength of the cast, and the perfect dialogue and almost-perfect rendering of one of the greatest novels of all time makes up for the disappointing sets.

One of the greatest satires ever filmed and Chaplin’s most fully realized comedy. A fine blend of the usual Chaplin slapstick and pathos along with a very effective social and political commentary. Charlie is Adenoid Hynckle, dictator of an only slightly fictional country of Tomania. He also plays a Jewish ghetto barber. Both are played with such impeccable accuracy that to distinguish between them is extremely easy.Names are changed but this film is unruffled the most effective film of Nazi Germany and Hitler’s thankfully aborted attempt to consume over the world. Chaplin’s script never gets too preachy at least without an equal dose of satire. His come is to develop people laugh while teaching them at the same time. Nowhere is this more apparent than in his final monologue. After a predictable wrong identity episode, Chaplin as the unnamed Jewish barber speaks of the horrors of Nazism. This climazes what may be the greatest performance in the history of comedy films. The greatest because it does more than simply compose us laugh-it makes us mediate. The film earned Chaplin well deserved Oscar nominations for Best Characterize, Screenplay and Actor. This is a film you must gaze.
When Chaplin began planning his next film in 1937, criticizing the rise of fascism in Europe and condemning the treatment of the Jewish people under Adolf Hitler were controversial ideas, although they would become more common by the time of the film’s eventual release in 1940. The film is divided roughly in half, with Chaplin playing the starring role in each segment (I’ve never understood the opening disclaimer stating that the resemblance of the dictator and the Jewish barber is entirely coincidental; the final share of the film depends precisely on their similarity) . The first role is the most definite, given Chaplin’s familiar mustache and general appearance. He plays Adenoid Hynkel, a very thinly veiled impersonation of Adolf Hitler. Chaplin’s motivation appears to earn Hitler gape like a goofball — the target of ridicule. He falls down stairs, he flies into a rage when his office supplies don’t function correctly, and he plays a childish game of one-upmanship with his “brother dictator”, Benzino Napaloni of Bacteria. In one of the film’s most memorable sequences, he performs a dance with a globe of the Earth, happily gazing at all which he hopes to conquer. It’s a bizarrely fabulous moment — amusing, terrifying and beautifully directed. And it surely can’t be by chance that in the first shot of the globe itself, the Western Hemisphere — the United States of America — is what is pointed at the camera.
The other fragment of the film is ultimately the most spirited, especially from a unusual day perspective. Chaplin’s tramp had always been the everyman — the microscopic guy up against the world. Surely there had not been a more beloved character in the history of film than the runt beggar with his ill-fitting costume. Gaining sympathy for his cause is simplicity itself; choose this adored tramp who has entertained millions and turn him into a Jewish barber living in central Europe. Seeing this astounding and charming character thrown into the horrors of a ghetto in Germany during WWII is frightening. It’s almost inconceivable to imagine the fictional tramp existing in the same world as the horrors of Nazi Germany. In earlier films, we never really feared for the tramp’s safety; we always knew he’d figure some plan out of difficulty. But here, he’s powerless. He must race away. He can’t simply kick the policeman in the butt and scurry to victory. It’s a subtle but necessary contrast from his other films. His adversaries until now had been easily defeated heavies. But now he’s up against something putrid and accurate. He’s dragged across a street, beaten and almost hanged by stormtroopers. The word “Jew” is painted on the front of his shop. His home is burnt to the ground. He retains his humor, his hope and his will to fight, but he needs the world’s aid — which is one of the movie’s messages.

Chaplin’s final speech, where he breaks character and vehemently decries fascism, abhor and bigotry, has been called overwrought and schmaltzy. I disagree. I catch goose bumps every time I hear it. As one of the interviewees on the DVD documentary states, “He said what had to be said.” It’s bright from a historical point of concept. There are plenty of propaganda films from WWII (which is what this basically is when you boil down to it), but how many of them appeal to basic human decency instead of blunt patriotism?
One of the DVD extras is a documentary, THE TRAMP AND THE DICTATOR, produced by Turner Classic Movies. This is actually really advantageous. Showing footage from the movie next to newsreels of Hitler objective goes to present how spot-on Chaplin’s impersonation was. Enthralling is the inclusion of excerpts from one of the worst Nazi propaganda films (“The Eternal Jew” — a hateful portion of appalling racism) which features Chaplin’s 1931 visit to Berlin and denouncing him in a series of racial epitaphs. The discussion as to the appropriateness of laughing about something imperfect as Hitler is touched on and the topic is wonderful of debate.
Also included is some recently discovered color footage shot on the area of the film by Charlie’s brother, Sydney. It’s also included in its entirety as an extra, but it works better when excerpts are seen in the documentary. The footage by itself is relatively tedious for most of the time; the documentary uses the most intelligent material. On the other hand, I was amused by Sydney Chaplin’s focusing in on seemingly every woman explain during the filming of the ballroom dance scene.
The movie does have its ragged points. The WWI portions are more humorous than genuinely silly (though I’ve mellowed to the upside-down airplane gag the more times I’ve seen it) . And although Jack Oakie’s performance as a Mussolini-clone was inspired, one feels that the movie is biting off more than it can chew by including both dictators. As a result, some portions dealing with their relationship drags. So too does the whole Commander Schultz subplot. Additionally, a lot of the humor seems somewhat stuck between being still and being talkie. But for all of the flaws, this is collected an agreeable movie that I luxuriate in it a dinky more on each viewing. Perhaps not the best Chaplin film, but it definitely has something to say.

It’s not Shakespeare. It’s not Once Upon a Time In Mexico. And it’s not the Usual Suspects, but for what it is it works.
And what it is, is the smartest dreary movie I’ve seen in a very long time.
Among its many surprises, is you have a ogle group of men who actually behold out for each other.
You also have an splendid grandmother who is not the standard cookie-cutter grandmother.
These are objective two of the many departures from the expected that originate this anything but the one-note comedy that the commercials perform it seem like.
The 40 year-old is slash from the same cloth as Steve Martin’s early masterpiece, the Jerk, and as someone in his thirties, it’s refreshing to stare a silly movie, where the main character is not a 20-something.
Plus, the soundtrack is a surprising combination of some of the forgotten treasures of pop and broadway.
Perhaps, the best of all, it’s nice to be reminded that everyone is running on their occupy schedule in life.
My first viewing of “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” was tedious in its theatrical urge. By then it had been banished to the smallest theater in the multiplex, so me and (I grasp) the only other middle-aged virgin in town were its sole audience. I wish I’d seen it sooner, because it’s now one of my all-time celebrated comedies.
Forty-year-old Andy Stitzer lives a comfortably regimented singleton life – similar to the main character from “About a Boy,” except chaste, uncool, and with no internal monologue. He works in the service department of Bright Tech, a Circuit City-like electronics store. One day, a couple of coworkers ask him to be the fifth man at a poker party. He accepts, but during the game is outed as a virgin. The rest of the movie revolves around his friends’ sinful attempts to bag him curved up, along with Andy’s obvious efforts to overcome his scare of women and woo Trish, an dazzling customer who owns an online auction store the street.
This could easily have been another lowbrow copulation comedy. However, it’s grand better than that. Steve Carell (also a co-writer) does a resplendent job of making Andy into a sympathetic character. Indeed, I easily identified with his motivations and actions: the abominable experiences that led him to forsake dating, his dash into fantasy, and even the mundane activities he uses to possess his solitary life. Andy’s friends are also fascinating because they narrate flawed approaches to women. David (Paul Rudd) is obsessed with a gal who dumped him years ago, Cal (Seth Rogan) objectifies females, and the serial cheater Jay (Romany Malco) can’t commit to his longsuffering girlfriend.
The movie has been lengthened in this DVD edition by 17 minutes with additional and extended scenes. As for DVD extras, this edition is packed with a decent assortment. Deleted scenes like Andy’s public karaoke debut added depth to the characters. A series of outtakes include the usual blown lines, gaffes, and laughing fits. The consuming commentary contains moving bits of trivia on the filmmaking process. However, it was a bit too crowded for my taste (unprejudiced about everybody shows up), and Seth Rogan has a tendency to dominate the proceedings. Unfortunately, Catherine Keener is a glaring absence. Her portrayal of Trish is trustworthy, and I really wanted to hear her perspective. Finally, the other featurettes, such as the waxing scene “making-of” bit, are stock, but passable.
Although it’s somewhat raunchy, as a Christian I have to commend “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” for a single crucial thing: it’s the only mainstream movie I know of that makes chastity until marriage behold like a vast conception. That alone is enough to recommend it (even if my pastor disagrees) . But the humor, account, characters, and performances are also worth the examine – especially if someday, like me, you hope to squawk “Age of Aquarius” on your honeymoon.

When this was recently shown on cable, the host said that Andy Griffith threw himself so totally into the role that the nastiness impacted his personal life; when filming was completed, he purportedly told his family that he would never do a role like it again.
He never did. He went on to endear himself to millions on The Andy Griffith Demonstrate and Matlock– the folksy but wise nice guy. While I was watching A Face In The Crowd for the first time (it took me until age 40 before I discovered this film), I felt numbed, my emotions felt…BLASTED. I told my husband that I didn’t judge I could ever study Matlock again– how could this towering fear have “sold out” by playing the nice guy the rest of his life? How DARE he deprive his audience of the power he so obviously was able to bring to the shroud? I was perplexed, even angry– what happened?
Now that I’ve heard the memoir of why his career took the path it did, I can spy his other work, smile, and be pleased it all the more. Because it’s OK; they caught lightning in a bottle with this one. Most actors go their entire lives without leaving this kind of legacy.

I’d never seen Patricia Neal play her emotions this raw, either. The HOWL she lets out when she throws herself across the console to support Rhodes on the air…Kazan had a map of really wringing his actors.
I won’t go into any synopsis or further analysis; other reviewers have done impartial beautiful on that count. However, I am dumbfounded that this film is NOT on DVD, was NOT nominated for a single Academy Award; while I negate the latter can be explained away by the politics of the times, it doesn’t interpret why Wiley and Bona’s otherwise exhaustive tome “Inside Oscar” doesn’t even MENTION the film as having made an impact. We were paranoid, yes, and we were cautious then (what goes around,comes around,huh? ), but were audiences and critics also deaf, lifeless, and blind? I intend to do further research on that note; this film is not likely to leave my psyche soon.
A Face in the Crowd, director Elia Kazan’s criminally underrated 1956 political melodrama, tells the all-too plausible narrative of Lonsome Rhodes. Discovered by a local reporter (Patricia Neal) while spending time in a jail cell for vagrancy, Rhodes (Andy Griffith) is a drifter whose folsky charisma snappily makes him an instant celebrity. Soon, Rhodes has taken Neal as his lover and has his enjoy television reveal where he gives out his home-spun opinions to a charmed nation. However, Rhodes is hardly the benevelolent country bumpkin that he presents himself to be. Instead, he is a power hungry meglomaniac who uses his fame to promote a fascist political organization. Worthy as he seduces a niave nation, he seduces a teenage cheerleader (Lee Remick) into being his bride. By the time that Neal and cynical television writer Walter Matthau advance to realize the monster they’ve helped unleash on the world, it may indeed be too gradual.
If this film was too easily dismissed when released, it has become all the more plausible and relavent in novel years. Certainly, the recent popularity of talk radio can be seen as a fulfilment of the film’s prophecy. However, a more disturbing parallel can be made between Rhodes and the unique emergence of several political leaders whose popularity has been based less on their abilities and more on the “straight-talking” personalities that they skillfully show to a public disillusioned with “politics-as-usual.” (Ross Perot and Jesse Ventura being honest two of the more definite examples.)

Best known for working with certifiably gargantuan actors like Marlon Brando and James Dean, Elia Kazan assembled a cast for A Face in the Crowd that may appear unlikely at first. Who could ever imagine a dusky political drama starring Walter Matthau and Andy Griffith — two seemingly polar opposites best known for their comedic efforts? However, it is a risk that plays off beautifully. Matthau’s urban glumness stands in perfect dissimilarity to Griffith’s country-corn routine and both are such relaxing presences that even the most sophisticated of viewers will rep it hard not to be drawn into a untrue sense of security that makes the film’s ultimate revelations all the more disturbing.
A Face in the Crowd was Andy Griffith’s first film and he gives an fantastic performance that will surprise anyone who knows Griffith only as the sheriff of Mayberry. While smooth displaying his beget unusual charisma, Griffith also doesn’t tremulous away from revealing — subtly but surely — that Lonesome Rhodes is a truly spoiled man. What’s now forgotten is that even as Sherif Andy Taylor, Griffith’s performance had a sure edge. If the people surrounding him were laughable, Taylor was always a no-nonsense authoritarian who luckily had a suitable sense of humor. In his performance as Rhodes, Griffith gives us a portrait of Andy Taylor without the sense of humor or the grounding-influence of family. Its an fabulous, all-too realistic performance that makes one wonder what Griffith could have accomplished if he’d continued to sight that edge.
Though Griffith dominates the film, the supporting cast is also strong. Along with the aforementioned Matthau, Patricia Neal gives a strong performance and brings both a subtle class snobbery and a repressed sensuality to her role. Her scenes later in the film, when she is forced to confront what she has position loose on the world, are devastating. Though her role is diminutive, Lee Remick is both sexy and sympathetic as Griffith’s child bride. Interestingly, Kazan doesn’t reveal her character as a total innocent. Perhaps considerable like the film’s America, if Remick is seduced and abused Rhodes, it is a seduction and degregation that she, at least partially, seems to desire.
After naming names during the red terror, Kazan often seemed to be drifting. Shunned by Hollywood, Kazan’s films soon became obsessed with justifying his acquire actions. His last two vast films — On the Waterfront and a Face in the Crowd — both deal with the McCarthyism of the 1950s. After seeing this miniseries and the recent David Lynch theatrical release, I felt compelled to read the book and choose some state inconsistencies (i.e. where did the weirding weapons go and where the heck was Duncan Idaho really supposed to die? In the Atreides compound during the initial Harkonnen attack or blown to bits by Harkonnen patrols in the desert spiriting Paul and his mother to safety? ) . The Sci-Fi series got it suitable.
I did not accumulate Allec Newman annoying as some people did. Determined, he was wooden, but Paul was schooled in the controlling of his maintain emotions by his mother so that they did not betray him. After the Harkonnen attack his ruthless, unemotional behavior became more pronounced as he was immersed in the grim Fremen culture.
In terms of following the novel legend, the Sci-Fi Channel series is first-rate to Lynch’s version. Distinct, nobody seems to be able to salvage the fact that Paul Atreides is supposed to be 14-15 when the chronicle starts and that he is described as being noteworthy darker complected than either actor who has played him in the past, but things actually happened in the sequence they were supposed to in the miniseries. Another nice element of the miniseries was the consume of knives. Everybody has knives in the miniseries, unprejudiced like in the book, where knives play an valuable piece of Fremen culture. Karel Dobry’s Dr. Kynes and P.H. Despite their lack of emotion and stoic demeanor, you could instantly behold them as the most unsafe men in the room. In the miniseries Gurney Halleck looks and feels like the battle-hardened ex-slave who would die for his Duke. If anything, Patrick Stewart’s portrayal in the movie (when his character was on conceal) was too “spruce” to be Gurney Halleck.
Hey, Raban even had some dialogue in the miniseries (like he did in the book) instead of wandering around and giggling perversely while eating some indescribable meat product like he did in Lynch’s movie. Feyd even gets to do things in the miniseries besides offering Sting’s characteristic gape of the Lynch interpretation. Clear, his clothes stunk in the miniseries, but he was shown as being grand more hazardous (both physically and mentally) in the miniseries than Sting was in the movie version. Stepping out of a steam-bath and cocking on eyebrow on cue don’t anguish me as mighty as the man who looks harmless and has awful fashion sense, but is a cold-blooded killer. Ian McNiece surprised me as Baron Harknonnen, since I’m customary to him in more effeminate, comedic roles. I idea he did a beautiful job as the Baron, mixing the vicious with the pathetic (now if only I hadn’t seen quite so worthy of him wearing nothing but his suspensor harness…) .

The miniseries does have its weaknesses. Once again, the actor who played Yueh fell short. I never once saw the tattoo Yueh had on his forehead that signified his imperial conditioning. How many times is this blasted tattoo mentioned in the book? William Distress has as distinguished intensity as a corpse. I do judge that Lynch’s movie made the Bene Gesserit more menacing with their bald heads and shadowy gowns. The Bene Gesserit attire of the miniseries was comic. In fact, hats were graceful bad throughout the series. I also like Lynch’s interpretation of guild navigators and Harkonnen “garbage bags with green eyeholes” shock troops. However, other visual elements, like the stillsuits (the principal wardrobe of the second half of the epic) and vehicles, are more apt in the Sci-Fi miniseries.
Is it perfect? No. Was it enough to cause me to rob a copy of the book to net out if they did a better/worse job? Yes. Is it more faithful to the novel narrative? Yes.
David Lynch’s 2-hour feature film (later extended to 3 hours) and John Harrison’s 6-hour TV miniseries each have very different interpretations of Frank Herbert’s masterful sci-fi unusual “Dune”. Separately, neither danger adequately captures Herbert’s vision of humanity and struggles for power in the far distant future; but each work brings varying degrees of depth to the conceal, giving the viewer a perceive of what Herbert envisioned.
Strengths of Harrison’s TV miniseries interpretation:
* Better character development: especially Duke Leto Atreides (William Harm), Princess Irulan Corrino (Julie Cox), Padishah-Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV (Giancarlo Giannini) and Stilgar (Uwe Ochsenknecht) .

* A more comprehensive telling of the story: including the Corrino family, the ordinary lives of the Fremen, the ties between the Harkonnen and Atreides families, and the influence of the Bene Gesserit. Strangely, Paul is never called Usul.
* Better special effects and panoramic views, except for the often-used surrealistic lighting.
* Microscopic utilize of stock footage scenes, which was often old by Lynch.
Strengths of Lynch’s feature film interpretation:
* Better costumes overall, especially the all of the uniforms and Fremen stillsuits, which, unlike the TV miniseries, looked as if they would actually work.

Someone who hasn’t read Herbert’s new and only sees Lynch’s feature film may not understand the anecdote, but someone who hasn’t read the new but only sees Harrison’s TV miniseries will probably understand the legend without wretchedness. Anyone who has read the modern and sees either live-action interpretation will probably be disappointed to some degree by both, but each one can be appreciated for what each brings to the cover. The acting from Alec Newman as Paul ‘Muad’Dib’ Atreides was by no means perfect in the TV miniseries, but did shed a different light on the character from Kyle MacLachlan.
Overall, I give Harrison’s TV miniseries version of “Dune” a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. It is attractive to speculate how David Lynch would have added more to his film if he had been able to develop a more comprehensive fragment like the TV miniseries, as well as consume CGI special effects and the best actors from both. Clearly, each cover interpretation shows what each director was able to effect with his available resources and artistic license.

Cormac McCarthy’s recent NO COUNTRY FOR Venerable MEN has been successfully transformed into a film in the skilled hands of Ethan and Joel Coen. The earth tones and its vibrancy during the day, to the black gloomy and blues during the night. I saw no major artifacting or high grain during the crude light conditions.
Also, when you observe the characters in High Definition, you stare the wrinkles, the pores…very detailed portray quality. JUDGMENT CALL:
“NO COUNTRY FOR Frail MEN” is definitely not a film for the customary hearted. The film has its many layers but I deem that Javier Bardem’s profitable portrayal of the psychopath Anton Chigurh is going to ruffle some feathers because of his overall study, his demeanor and his eyes of the thrill of a waste, you can’t encourage but contemplate how crooked this character is and for definite characters, who encounter Chigurh, you are at the edge of your seat as he wants to choose the fate if they live or die. It’s zigzag and his means of killing and the barrage of violence is not going to compose the squeamish any happier.
This is possible the Coen Brothers darkest film. Granted “Fargo” was a sad film but “NO COUNTRY FOR Worn MEN” is well-written, well-acted, well-filmed…it’s the Coen Brothers masterpiece extravaganza. Gloomy humor, violence galore but a well-told set and characters that you want to inspect.
For me, the violence was excessive but it was needed. It was very well-known to note Chigurh as this psychopath and the level of detail that went into showing those bloody scenes was well done by the crew.
As the Coen Brothers and Javier Bardem did a fabulous job, you also have to give the thumbs up to the other talent.
Josh Brolin being denied an Academy Award nomination was a bit of a shock. Where many people have not been fortunate to salvage away from Chigurh, the character of Llewelyn Moss was a constant challenge but you actually felt yourself rooting for Moss for a miniature while.
Tommy Lee Jones as Sheriff Bell was portrayed very well. A World War II Vet and proud Sheriff who is now having to deal with drug deals and mafia style killings, he’s not prepared to consume on these type of people. This is not the same country he lived in before, it’s become hazardous and hence the title “NO COUNTRY FOR Worn MEN”.
I will have to say the gleaming star was Kelly MacDonald as Carla Jean. At first, you believe that the woman is the token big at the beginning of the film but her final scenes perhaps is a scene that has left many people wondering what happened to her character. It’s because her character was able to do something that many of the other characters have not and thus, comes away being someone special. And I also have to say that I was worried to earn out that Macdonald was Scottish and had this thick accent and to hear hear playing a woman with this Southern assert was astounding. Well done!
Many people who purchased the first Blu-ray disc may be asking themselves, is this second collector’s edition worth it? Absolutely yes! The original DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack is impartial astonishing. Combine that with already the perfect video, video and audio are honest perfect. The special features also gets a 5 with five hours of interview footage and in depth knowledge leisurely what the Coen Brothers wanted to effect in the film, to hear the talents (with the exception of Tommy Lee Jones) really exhibit their passion towards this film and honest very worthy insight of the making of the film.
So, as powerful as I disapprove re-releases especially if they are not long after the previous was released, in this case, I have to say that the release of “NO COUNTRY FOR Old-fashioned MEN” was warranted. For such an unbelievable and blooming film, it deserved special treatment and now it does.
“NO COUNTRY FOR Venerable MEN – 2-DISC COLLECTOR’S EDITION” receives an A+ and is highly recommended!

This 10th Anniversary DVD is unbiased a smaller version of the 3-Disc Collector’s Edition. You’re getting the movie plus a few of the extras from the 3-disc station. I suggest to anyone that already has the 3-Disc status to not bother, because you’ll be paying for less of the same thing. If you don’t have any copies of Large I would try and track down the 3-Disc area, because it’s the same imprint(and cheaper at some places) as the 10th Anniversary Edition, and you’ll be getting more extras and better packaging. Astronomical is one of my favorites movies of the 90s and my second accepted from James Cameron, but this DVD is a raze of money.

By the map, I apologize for bringing the movie’s rating down with my 2 stars rating(which was meant for the 10th anniversary dvd release and not for the movie itself. I didn’t realise I did this until now.
Don’t earn me base, I like Enormous but I found it queer how the disc transfer was only minute to the bare bones! A theatrical trailer, that’s it! Advance on! This is the most expensive movie, highest grossing movie, most critically acclaimed, and most award-winning movie an there are zero extras? Cameron’s other films are fully loaded. Mammoth gets the shaft while lesser films like AMERICAN PIE 2 are blessed with double disc sets with hours of bonuses. This concern me beyond thought as a film buff. I remember a well-done special that was once on FOX about the film and would’ve been perfect on the disc. A commentary, for crying out loud! A million filmmakers and castmembers and no commentary track? Insane! This disc should be the most overwhelming, extra-ladden DVD ever made, but instead only got left with the standard. The portray and sound quality is top notch, but once you’re done the movie you’re anxious to bag out more. There aren’t even any cheesy production notes! Collectors, skip this DVD unless you really fancy the movie. I only hope that J.C. realizes this and is in the works of a Substantial SPECIAL EDITION. Now that would do it justice.

If you scrutinize these dvd’s you will examine that while watching the English version, ocasionally it will automatically change to Japanese…I was like what the heck is this about. I plan I had tainted dvd’s. I wrote the company that released them and this is what they told me. The versions that were sent to them were in unpleasant shape and considerable shorter than what is actually on each disc the scheme they are now. When they switch from English to Japanese, this is becuase these were added scenes that were originally not there when they were received. Since these shows are from the 60’s, and obviously these are not in production any more, there’s no intention they can loop the recent scenes.

PS Volume 2 is residence to be released November 7th 2006. We need to remember that this series is 40 years faded this year. Not everyone can afford or maybe some studios are objective too cheap to use 10 to 20 million dollars on restoration of prints al la George Lucas with Star Wars.
We have to select it for what it is.
Just relish them. We’re lucky that we have something decent on dvd. I know the audio problems are terrible, but trust me, if the unique makers were around, then maybe they could work their magic and fix the convey. But I’m clear Ultraman has several owners now and are not filthy rich to restore these things. Or are they?
It’s grand to be able to stare these shows again! I lived in Japan in the mid-to slack 60’s and obviously watched Ultraman then along with all the other spacious Japanese TV shows of the time. I never notion I would be able to peer Ultraman again-but even at 45+ I smooth indulge in watching them. Yes I speak I’m going through a second childhood–but who care I’m going to appreciate every itsy-bitsy of this boxed status!! Highly recommended to kids today-even with all their high tech distractions kids really seem to like this exhibit.

After viewing A&E’s “The Honor and the Glory”, I found a fresh sense of patriotism. The young men and women who are fortunate enough to become members of the elite organizations examined in the video, can only be called the finest our country has produced. I wish that every young person I know could scrutinize the segment on the Marine Soundless Drill Team. I’m obvious they would salvage encouragement and would procure an thought of the value of discipline, hard work, and self-confidence.
From 1969 to 1971 I had the honor of serving with the Army’s ceremonial unit in Washington — “The Customary Guard” — which is one of the units featured in this documentary. The film does a masterful job of capturing the spirit and the essence of not honest the The Aged Guard, but the ceremonial units of all four of the armed services. The film’s production values are outstanding, and it does a incredible job of capturing all of the color and pageantry, and in many cases the sorrow and solemnity, inherent in the work that these units do. What it does best, however, is think the mentality of the troops who relieve in these units — the privilege they feel in serving, the gratitude and deep respect they feel for those whose sacrifices they honor. For anybody who sheds a hobble when Memorial Day comes around each year, this film will deepen your appreciation, heighten your like of country, and give you a deserved sense of satisfaction over the contrivance that we, as a people, are right to our promise not to forget out fallen heroes.
